Application Form

This year in Stockport, MadLab and Shift Click are once again running Introduction to Web Development, where you can learn the essential skills to start creating with code and realising your ideas on the web.
The course starts 26th February (with an online induction on the afternoon of the 13th February), lasts for six weeks and is part-time: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am to 2pm, in person at Stockport Museum (in Stockport Town Centre); and 6-hours of self learning via our online platform at a time that suits you.
For more details, including a more in-depth run down of what’s covered, visit https://shiftclick.uk. Or if you have any questions then please get in touch using the contact details below.

Who this course is for

Before applying please make sure this course is right for you. We are looking for:
People who live in Stockport, aged between 18 and 30 and not currently in full-time education. We are especially looking to support those who are either unemployed or underemployed (e.g. on a zero-hours contract, or shift-work with unpredictable hours). We welcome people from elsewhere in Greater Manchester, as long as you can make it to central Stockport every Wednesday and Thursday.
Complete beginners. Absolutely no coding experience is necessary, but you will need to be familiar with using a computer – for example to browse the internet, or to download, save and find files on your hard drive.
Those who can make the commitment to attend the whole course. We strongly encourage you to attend every session but we will be available to help you catch up if you are unable to make the occasional session due to prior commitments.
Those with access to a laptop or computer on which you have permission to install the required software (i.e. not a mobile phone or tablet). If you only have a desktop computer at home we can provide a laptop for in-person sessions.

Any questions? Get in touch!

We’re happy to answer any queries you may have about any aspect of what we offer, or about your personal situation as a potential learner. You can contact us by email at [email protected], or via phone call/text/WhatsApp on 07874 040940.
We aim to get back to everyone promptly, but if you're messaging outside of our normal office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm) we may take a little longer so please bear with us!

Ready to apply?

We’ve tried to make the application process as straightforward as possible. It should take you around 15-20 minutes to complete, and if your application is successful we will then follow up to arrange a brief interview with you.
Please do not use AI to help you answer these questions. It's important we get to know the real you. Try not to respond to open questions with short one-word answers. The more you can tell us, the more likely your application will be successful.
If you would prefer to answer these questions using an alernative format to text (e.g. voice or video recording) then please send your responses to [email protected] after submitting the basic information.
Places are limited so please apply sooner rather than later. We’re looking for enthusiasm and commitment rather than qualifications!
